The Importance of Planning Ahead
Every day, most people go through some sort of routine. That routine may include getting ready for work, coming home from work, picking up children from school, making dinner, and then going to bed. However, most of the time the simple routine mentioned is not at all simple. The start of the day can be more unorganized and stressful than any other part of the day. What people do not realize is that this fact of life can be changed by doing something very simple. Just plan ahead.
A single mother, with very young and demanding children, probably has the hardest time in the morning. The struggle comes with or without preparation from the night before. Although, planning ahead the night before can eliminate some of the potential stress that can occur. For instance, instead of waiting until morning to prepare the children's breakfast beverage, have it made already. Also, have all of their outfits laid out neatly in a designated area. Maybe even have a breakfast idea picked out for the next day. Make it something as simple as a breakfast bar and chocolate milk if you are short on time.
All of these tasks seem like no-brainers. In reality, when there are multiple children screaming for attention, having to take five minutes to think of something to feed them could seem impossible. The key is to make sure that the entire morning is completely planned out all the way down to who's diaper is getting changed first.
This same concept applies to your life outside of the home. Very few people do any major planning ahead in terms of the future. The planning never really begins until there is a scare. A scare can consist of your boss deciding that he is not happy with the way you convinced the customer to buy the company's product. You get pulled into his office and given a final warning. It is in moments like these that people start to take inventory on their lives and where they are now. What would happen if you were to lose your job? Is there enough money in your savings account for a job loss? Do you have a back-up plan? Or have you always just gone with the flow, in hopes that nothing life changing would every happen?
Rather if planning ahead keeps you sane throughout the day when handling simple tasks or if it keeps your family afloat if something drastic were to happen, it is extremely important. Some things that you can do to start planning ahead for daily life include making lists, preparing lunch the night before, and filling up your gas tank the night before. Some things that you can start doing right now to prepare for the future include putting money away into a 401K, putting money into a personal savings account, and maybe looking into a back-up career. Planning ahead may not completely fix, solve, or eliminate a problem but it will make it more manageable.
